1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the mobile application What to Eat (“App”). By using the App, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account information (when you register or log in)
- Username and password (password is processed by our servers and not stored in plain text on your device in a way we control; we rely on secure server handling).
- User ID (uid) and authentication token (key) after login, stored on your device to keep you signed in and to sync your data.
2.2 Food and usage data
- Food history: dish names, meal type, time, notes, tags, photos (or image references), and optional location/address (e.g. “Downtown Bistro”, “锦江区中纱帽街8号”) when you add or recognize food. This data is stored on your device and, if you are logged in, may be synced to our servers so you can use it across devices.
- Food photos: when you use the “camera” or “photo” feature for food recognition, we may send the image (or a processed form of it) to our servers to provide AI-based recognition and suggestions. We do not use these images for advertising or sell them to third parties.
2.3 AI features (when you are logged in and online)
- AI chat: your chosen chat type (e.g. nutrition report, taste profile, decision engine, mood-based), language preference, an optional summary of your food history, and your messages may be sent to our services (and potentially to third-party AI providers we use) to generate responses. We use this only to provide the feature.
- Food recognition: as above, photos you submit for recognition are processed to identify the dish and return suggestions.
2.4 Device and technical data
- Device and app usage: we may collect generic technical information (e.g. app version, device type, OS) to operate the service, fix bugs, and improve the App. We do not track you across other apps or websites for advertising.
2.5 Location
- Location is used only when you choose to add a food entry and allow the App to attach a place (e.g. “当前城市/区域” or a text address). We do not continuously track your location. You can deny location permission and still use the App; location will then be optional or omitted.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and improve the App (recommendations, AI insights, sync, food history).
- To authenticate you and keep your account and data in sync across devices when you are logged in.
- To run AI features (recognition, nutrition/taste/decision/mood-based chat) using your inputs and, when applicable, food history summary.
- To fix errors, analyze anonymous usage patterns, and improve performance and security.
- We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for cross-app or cross-site advertising targeting.
4. Data Storage and Retention
- On your device: account credentials (e.g. token), food history, and preferences are stored locally (e.g. SQLite, SharedPreferences). You can clear app data or uninstall to remove local data.
- On our servers: if you use an account, we store account data and synced food history (and related content you upload, such as photos used for recognition) on our infrastructure. We retain this for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service and comply with law. You may request deletion of your account and associated data (see “Your rights” below).
5. Data Sharing and Third Parties
- We may use third-party services (e.g. cloud hosting, AI/ML providers) to run the App. These providers process data on our behalf under agreements that require them to protect your data and use it only for the services we request.
- We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect our or others’ rights and safety.
- We do not sell or rent your personal information to advertisers or data brokers.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your region, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your account and associated data (e.g. food history, synced content). You can often do this in the App (e.g. in Profile/Settings) or by contacting us.
- Export your data in a portable format where technically feasible.
- Object or restrict certain processing where applicable by law.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent (e.g. location). You can revoke permissions in your device settings.
To exercise these rights or ask questions, contact us at: [请填写联系邮箱].
7. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures (e.g. encryption in transit, access controls) to protect your data. No system is completely secure; we encourage you to use a strong password and keep your device secure.
9. International Transfer
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards (e.g. contracts, standard clauses) where required by law.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes (e.g. in the App or by email if we have it). The “Last updated” date at the top will be revised. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
